Innsbruck brings back bittersweet memories. Back in the 80's, I went to a boarding school run by nuns. The school was excellent, my classmates were very nice, the nuns were kind but I was an extremely homesick 15 year old, struggling to learn German and just wanted to go back to the Philippines. I did not finish the school year and went back home. Fast forward many years (I cannot believe how fast time flies), I have been back twice and now appreciate the charming alpine city.
My last visit was in 2008 and I reminisced about my time in Innsbruck. It is funny how despite the homesickness, I remembered the fun moments...the school trip to Rome, the school parties, tasting a wine spritze and feeling wildly sophisticated, hanging out with the girls who were extremely nice and never made me feel like an outsider despite the language barrier. In retrospect...they were good times.
