A group of friends had dinner during restaurant week at Chef Keegan Gerhard's D Bar to visit Matt Parsons, the general manager who we all knew from the University Club. I would describe the food as "dishes like mom used to make if mom went to culinary school and was a novelist." Creative, bold, imaginative comfort food and desserts.
Peter and I went to Romesco Mexiterranean in Bonita with no reservations, and were seated at the intimate dimly lit tapas bar filled with bull fighter posters. The interiors are a bit kitschy, but the space is inviting... the type of spot where you buy bottles of wine and chat for hours. We visited Javier Plascencia's Caesar's and Erizo in Tijuana a few years ago and heard lots of positive buzz about his Baja Med cuisine at Romesco. We were not disappointed.
