I am so grateful for The Points Guy. I've used American Airlines points several time to fly to Europe but never thought I could use them for flights to Manila, Philippines where I go yearly. Peter read How to Search for Oneworld Award Availability and How to Book Awards with American Airlines Advantage Miles on The Points Guy and booked for me a flight in November from San Diego to Manila via Japan Airlines Business Class in November and Manila to Los Angeles via Cathay Pacific First Class in December. These were flights were so relaxing, the food so good that I was in no rush for the plane to land. Culinary pampering in the sky.
Flight: JAL Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner ...San Diego (SAN) to Narita (NRT)
Miles Used: 55,000
Shell Flat Neo and dimming windows that allow you to adjust the amount of light. When I first saw the seats, I thought that they looked a bit narrow and the recline has an angle but I slept comfortably.
I have not flown Japan airlines since the 80's (from Manila to Tokyo with my dad) but remember enjoying the meals because they served Japanese food (one of my favorite cuisines). I expected above average food on JAL, but the meals served on the flight were exceptional, beautifully presented, creative and tasted fresh. Plus the Japanese meal was mostly seafood. A memorable meal should be delicious, should astonish and delight. The BEDD Menu accomplished this.
I took another JAL flight from Manila to Narita. The plane was older but the service and food still very good. I landed in Manila feeling relaxed and happy, looking forward to seeing family and friends and celebrate the holidays.
For 2016, I wish everyone boundless joy, good health, success and prosperity...and I want to collect more points!
