Girl's night dinner at the Smoking Goat in North Park. The husbands were home and we enjoyed a good bottle of wine, a rich indulgent dish (not eating healthy tonight) and a decadent dessert. Very good food, excellent service, casual mellow vibe...the perfect place to catch up, chat and relax.
Reminiscing about a trip to Venice in 2010. It was evident in the magnificent architecture that this was once one of the most powerful republics and the center of commerce and art. I can imagine those couture clad courtesans wearing their towering chopines strolling around the piazzas. The place was packed with tourists, but Venice and its Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was breathtaking, splendid and as cliche as it sounds .....romantic.
Peter and I took an overnight trip to Los Angeles to watch Spandau Ballet perform at the Wiltern Theater. I grew up listening to the group and was excited to hear them perform. We stayed in gentrified hip Downtown LA (I lived in LA in the 90's, remember a seedier place and am amazed at its transformation) and had brunch at Baco Mercat. We passed by this restaurant several times in the past and were curious to try their innovative baco...flatbread taco sandwich.
I was recently looking through photos and found shots of our trip to Rome in 2010. Peter and I were walking aimlessly filled with joy and excitement that we were in one of the most fascinating cities. Absolute travel bliss.
A group of friends had dinner during restaurant week at Chef Keegan Gerhard's D Bar to visit Matt Parsons, the general manager who we all knew from the University Club. I would describe the food as "dishes like mom used to make if mom went to culinary school and was a novelist." Creative, bold, imaginative comfort food and desserts.
